Technology To-Go

The Richmond Heights Memorial Library offers two Technology-To-Go options: a Chromebook for use with an already existing Internet connection, or a Connectivity Kit that contains a Chromebook and a mobile Hotspot device to create the Internet connection.

What Is a Chromebook?

Chromebooks are different from the average laptop. They are designed to work in the “cloud,” using tools like Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets and require an active Internet connection to run. They don’t allow software or documents to be saved to the computer itself. Our Chromebooks are touchscreen — meaning no mouse is provided.

What is a Hotspot?

A mobile hotspot is a portable hardware device that connects to the same kind of cellular network as a cell phone. It converts the cellular signal into a wireless access point for connecting devices to the Internet.

Checkout Information:

3 week checkout – no renewals
Adult MLC (18+) cardholders with cards in good standing
Must pick up at and return kits to Richmond Heights Memorial Library only
Patron is responsible for the maintenance and care of all items for the duration of checkout.
Components in Connectivity Kits may not check out separately.

General Information

This kit contains a Chromebook computer along with its charger. In order to use this device, you'll need access to an already existing Wi-Fi connection. If you don't have a Wi-Fi connection at home, you may use the Chromebook at the library or other location that offers Wi-Fi access.
